America’s aging infrastructure places all citizens at risk who depend upon healthy water for drinking and bathing.
A story appeared in Sport’s Illustrated’s most recent issue.
“Troubled Water” by Michael Rosenberg is about the water problems in Flint, Michigan.
Flint, Michigan, before 2014 purchased a portion of its water from Detroit, Michigan.
In cost cutting measures Flint’s water supply started coming directly from their river.
All over America pipes to our homes and businesses are lined in lead.
The Detroit Free Press per the article says that it reported in October 2014 that General Motors pulled an engine plant off the river feed because the water was corroding its parts.
The city kept using it. The water was not good enough for a Cadillac, but it was fine for a child.
America’s aging infrastructure has many areas with lead lined pipes.
Lead causes brain and kidney damage, along with learning disabilities.
In Flint, Mchigan, water was drawn from the river without using corrosion control to prevent lead from seeping from ancient pipes carrying water into people’s homes.
Flint where the poverty rate is 41.5% and 56.6% of the population is African -Amercan, is where America hides from itself.
“The biggest challenge is changing mindsets”, says Hawkins.
Kids start to make what they see into their reality.
Healthcare providers must stand firm at the gate to know and deliver what is healthy for ther communities.
We do not want to look back and let them write the history of massive genocide due to our water supply.
Remember the words of your hippocratic oath to do no harm.
It is written you will know the truth and the truth shall set you free.
In your freedom take the time to be the difference in your household, community, state and country.
In each community of our country you can check with the environmental protection agency to verify the safety of your water supply.
What has happen in Flint is not an isolated incident in America.
This incident has the potential to raise its ugly head anywhere.
A dentist has a great platform from his/her dental office to educate the public regarding what can be done in order to remain safe.
Every household should have an emergency boil plan in place long before there is a problem evident with drinking water.
America’s aging infrastructure is a problem that must be addressed by all who are willing to make a difference.
