Cosmetic Ivory Wax Ups

Cosmetic Ivory Wax ups

Cosmetic Ivory Wax ups

Cosmetic Ivory Wax ups are fabricated so that patients can see contour and shape of their new smile.

Proper planning of a new smile can be done with computer generated images from state-of-the-art software.

Or the planning can be done with study models poured from alginate impressions.

Patients appreciate seeing a facsimile of the final product.

Waxing up the case reduces questions regarding the form and structure that goes into its fabrication.

Giving patients a cosmetic look they desire,  requires input from the patient and our entire dental team.

Problems exist in the delivery of difficult cases,

Minor tooth movement places strategically  supporting teeth in more ideal positions for maximum esthetics.

Cosmetic Ivory Wax ups are study models that provide great visualization of problems inherent within cases.

Most cases are not devoid of problems.

Plan well and you deliver a quality final product for your patient.

’Tis easy enough to be pleasant, when life flows along like a song,

but the man worth while is the one who will smile when everything goes dead wrong.

Ella Wheeler Willows, author of the above statement.

These words of wisdom are so true and frame the essence of this post.

Treatment plans give patients options in order to handle potential problems.

Potential problems that arise are considered a part of any case.

Dentists explain to patients what is possible regarding their treatment plan.

Dental Implants improve the viability of cases because of their high success rate, over 95%.

We use dental implants due to their high success rate and ability to limit potential problems.

A dental implant provides  flexibility in the restoration of missing teeth.

Cosmetic Ivory Wax ups strategically improve your ability to deliver a well planned case.

TV Series Billions

The TV Series Billions will be a roller coaster ride in their new season.

If you want to watch an interesting television series stay tuned in lieu of what was displayed on Tuesday evening.

“Billions” the series pilot, season 1, did not disappoint its viewers leaving you wanting to tune in for more next week. (

A New York U.S. attorney, Chuck Rhodes is playing the role of an aggressive public servant who goes all out to take down a New York big money mogul, Bobby Axelrod.

The U.S. Attorney’s wife is a psychiatrist, working for the star of the show, a valuable asset keeping key players performing at a high level.

The program reminds me of the television series, “Empire” and “Power” both action packed, full of good vs evil plots.

These two series define themselves with unique villains and heroines throughout their episodes.

A combination of both series may be found this season in “Billions”.

Tonight the characters have set the tone as highly intelligent and at the top of their games.

They show the viewers how business is done in the shadows and trenches, cloak and dagger style.

Careers are advanced at the expense of others.

Incarceration awaits those who get caught with their hands inside cookie jars when caught in the act of insider trading.

Taking down key players is the name of the game and prize for the attorney general, a ruthless cunning individual.

The mogul and U.S. attorney are pitted against each other as arch enemies.

They both find ways to keep tabs on the other as the psychological thriller plays out.

To the mogul his very way of life is at stake along with serious jail time.

He is the prize for the U.S. attorney who has never lost a white collar crime case out of over 80 cases tried in federal court.

A very narrow tight wire rope is walked in the series by those who make money in life’s gray areas where risk taken have been greatly reduced because of insider tips.

Think how successful you would be if someone gave you a formula for success where you knew exactly what to do before everyone else.

Every action you performed would be attached to the midas touch. The goose that lays golden eggs would be your personal property.

This appears to be the makings of a most interesting TV series Billions.

Improving crown retention.

Dentists and technicians are constantly improving crown retention for greater durability as technology breakthroughs unfold.

Clinical placement of porcelain crowns and bridges are cemented with bonding materials and luting agents.

Dental caries destroys tooth structure over time making the restorative process a challenge for the healthcare team.

An evaluation of remaining tooth structure determines if build-up of the tooth is necessary.

Severely damaged teeth that are found worthy of restoration are first treated with endodontic therapy.

A root canal requires an access preparation to sanitize the root complex where bacteria accumulates in the pulp chamber, the nerve and nourishment center of the tooth.

After the root canal is completed to restore function of the tooth, a crown is highly recommended.

The circumference of the tooth at the gum line should be in tact so that the margins of the tooth support and seal the crown to be placed for viability and longevity of the restored tooth.

This is not always possible, a continuous circumference of solid tooth structure at the gum line for a good seal when the crown is cemented.

A damaged tooth margin leaves the tooth vulnerable to attack due to open margins.

Improving crown retention can be achieved with the placement of pre-fabricated and custom made posts.

Dental posts are placed in the root canal areas and filling material placed to better seal tooth margin circumference.

Filling materials adhere to the post and the procedure is known as a core build up.

The core build-up can be shaped so that a dental crown can be custom fitted over it.

Patients should consider their options before making their final decision.

Options exist as extracting the tooth and placing a dental implant.

Another option after removal of the tooth is a bridge if there is a healthy tooth in front of the space and in back of the space to receive the bridge.

Bridges require the reduction of the adjacent teeth in order to fit the bridge over them.

Also to be considered as an option, a removable partial denture.

Post and core build-ups are considered great options because problems can be limited to the restoration of one tooth.

Keep in mind the goal of your dentist, improving crown retention, limits problems to the damaged tooth.

Root canals remove nourishment in the form of blood supply to the tooth.

A core build-up is a good investment improving crown retention.

Handle the business of life. The beauty of love.

The beauty of love lies in its longevity.

Enjoy your work but understand you are not the job that controls most of your waking days.

In the scriptures it is written love suffers long.

Attend enough weddings and you find yourself falling in love with life and your mate over and over again.

Leave the nest of your parents or the quiet of a lonely abode and cleave to the love of your life.

Thomas Wolfe says loneliness is the summation of life. There is an annoying sense of loneliness in most of us.

We are told to know the symptoms of the inner ache of loneliness.

You won’t be able to attack that which you are unable to locate or identify.

Find the solutions of life through the beauty of loving what you do and assisting others to do the same.

One of the keys to the meaning of life we are told is in good relationships.

To first have a good relationship with others you must have a right relationship with the Creator.

The troubles of this world are many where trouble is like a weed, once it starts to grow it covers everything. (TV series “The Rifleman”, Chuck Conners.)

The man able to focus his love on that which he finds most important will yield outstanding results over time if he does not succumb to the struggles of life.

Involve yourself in just causes where love is used to help others and you will be known for what you do in your efforts.

Pleasure seekers are not fulfilled in their pursuit of happiness and find it a very short term reward.

Invest your time and energy in meaningful relationships and you out distance the rest of humanity who are still attempting to figure out what they want from life.

In earlier years before the formation of a dental team and performing in the niche emergency dentist KC, valuable life lessons were learned from mental health.

Mental health allows you to keep your finger on the pulse of citizen interactions within your community.

Not everyone operates from the beauty of love.

Mental health centers would not be full of souls drained of their humanity because of the loveless and unkind.

We all have a part to play in the survival of mankind.

Take the time to understand that the beauty of love improves our survival.

Plan dental cases.

Plan dental cases and you will see more value provided for your patients.

As a clinician the job of a dentist is to give the patient treatment alternatives.

Dentists understand money does not grow on trees, making every dollar work for the benefit of the patient.

One way a patient can see a rendition of their finished case is through the fabrication of an ivory wax up.

Alginate impressions are taken, poured in stone with corrections and enhancements incorporated for display

for the patient.

The patient approves the enhancements and a temporary crown or bridge is made with agreed upon esthetics.

While waiting on the final permanent finished product, the patient gets a chance to wear a facsimile of the case.

This takes the patient from a negative to a positive position in reference to their smile.

It is not necessary to wait until the final product is delivered to the dental office to see what has been planned.

The entire dental team is involved in the case from the office staff to the porcelain ceramists  causing improvements in your smile.

Dentists are up to the challenge understanding the dynamics of how hard and soft tissues work in harmony for best results in esthetics and and stability of the final case.

Surgical procedures planned before dental implants can be placed require stabilization.

Where extensive bone grafting is necessary, bone remodeling may take as long as 8 – 9 months.

Nutrition plays a key role in the stability of bone.

Patients should limit the ingestion of carbonated beverages such as soda pop.

It is the opinion of this dentist that all refined processed sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and artificial sweetness should be greatly reduced during the remodeling process.

Emergency dentist KC is a hat worn by our team that sees firsthand the ravages of sugar on oral health.

Dentists take it upon themselves to provide a quality service in spite of the poor nutritional habits of patients.

Patients are taught to keep dental implants clear of food debris and plaque for sound preventative measures.

Sound preventative measures protect the area of crestal bone, the most difficult area to maintain.

We encourage patients not to work against biology partaking in poor nutrition and unhealthy medical and dental habits.

Dentists take many continuing education hours to deliver a quality service to all patients.

The science of restoring dental implants has a success rate of over 95% with adherence to understanding tissue dynamics.

Discuss with your dentist why some implant systems are not designed for immediate loading in surgical sites after the extraction of teeth.

Plan dental cases with the proper implant system for high levels of clinical success.

Managing Extraction Sites

Managing extraction sites is the duty of your dentist, gladly done in consultation.

Patients who contact us through emergency dental care in KC on some occasions are looking for second opinions.

A second opinion regarding your treatment plan, will make you feel more comfortable, so that moving forward with treatment is not a problem where there may be mis-understanding or more clarification desired.

Teeth that become candidates for extraction are not the major concern for patients looking for more than a removable full  or partial denture.

One question that comes up, “after my teeth are to be extracted why am I needing bone grafting?”

As a general rule tooth loss equates to bone loss.

This is the primary reason why bone grafting materials are placed in sockets at the time of extractions.

Atrophy of the jawbone occurs in less than a year where the bone narrows in height and width.

The goal of your dentist is the preservation of jawbone to maintain the integrity and shape of your facial features and provide adequate room for the placement of dental implants.

Bone grafting materials placed within the socket at the time of surgery in many instances keep patients from receiving additional surgery to build the bone back to  an idea state that will support the dental implant.

This past Saturday, an all day seminar was hosted by Nobel Biocare and The Kansas City Dental Implant Society at the Overland Park, Kansas Marriott.

The speaker was Dr. Joseph Kan, a highly credentialed implantologist.

Dr. Kan’s lecture was on “Immediate Function in Extraction Sites”, a proven concept with high patient satisfaction.

Techniques discussed have the potential to yield improved esthetic results and shorten patient healing time.

Long term studies with 5 to 10 years follow-up show cumulative survival rates of 96.5% to 100% for immediately loaded implants placed in extraction sites for any indication.

No statistically significant differences could be observed in prospective studies with greater than 1 year follow-up on TiUnite implants in fresh extraction versus healed sites.

There was minimal marginal bone change after implant insertion followed by stable or increasing bone levels.

Soft tissue results were also shown as positive.

Immediate placement combined with Immediate Function has a positive effect not only on marginal bone levels, but also esthetics, since immediate restoration preserves esthetics.

If primary implant stability permits, implants should therefore be instantly provisionalized in the interest of optimal soft tissue esthetics.

Managing extraction sites helps preserve bone and also yields greater esthetics.

healthcare associated infections. Premedication in dentistry

Premedication for dentistry keeps dental patients safe while undergoing their treatment.

Major concerns by dentists involve prescribing antibiotics for patients with heart problems.

Antibiotic prophylaxis for our patients has changed over the years because healthcare providers make note what effect antibiotics have on their patients.

Infective endocarditis is an inflammatory process within the heart caused by vegetative growth of bacteria.

Over the years we have told our patients they will need antibiotic coverage before the start of a dental procedure as a general rule.

Dentistry follows the guidelines of the American Heart Association.

Updates give the most current information for healthcare providers to follow.

It was assumed most patients with a heart murmur should receive antibiotics prior to most dental procedures, even minor ones.

Antibiotics kill both bacteria of a harmful nature and normal body flora necessary for floral balance and health.

Optimal health of our patients has shown there has been no benefit of using preventative antibiotics, except in the highest risk patients.

Highest risk patients have the following conditions and are at risk for developing Infective Endocarditis:

*A prosthetic heart valve

*Valve repair with prosthetic material

*A prior history of Infective Endocarditis

*Many congenital (from birth) heart abnormalities, such as single ventricle states, transposition of the great arteries, and tetralogy of Fallot, even if the abnormality has been repaired. Patent foramen ovale, the most common congenital heart defect, does not require prophylaxis.

Moderate risk patients it is reported do not require antibiotic prophylaxis.

*Valve repair without prosthetic material.

*Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

*Mitral valve prolapse with valvular regurgitation and/or valvular thickening

*Most other congenital cardiac abnormalities not listed above.

*Un-repaired ventricular septal defect, un-repaired patent ductus arteriosus.

*Acquired valvular dysfunction (e.g., mitral or aortic regurgitation stenosis).

*Atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, or patent ductus arteriosus that was successfully closed. (either surgically or with a father-based procedure) within the past six months.

Low risk patients for Infective Endocarditis have never been recommended as candidates for antibiotics.

*Physiologic, functional, or innocent heart murmurs.

*Mitral valve prolapse without regurgitation or valvular leaflet thickening.

*Mild tricuspid regurgitation.

*Coronary artery disease (including previous coronary artery bypass graft surgery).

*Simple atrial septal defect.

*Atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, or patent ductus arterioles that was successfully closed (either surgically or with a catheter-based procedure) more than six months previously.

*Previous rheumatic fever or Kawasaki disease without valvular dysfunction.

*People with pacemakers or defibrillators.

Premedication for dentistry is an important adjunct for the safety of our patients.

Removing silver fillings Emergency dental care in KC KC dentist accepting walk ins.

You may find yourself needing a KC dentist accepting walk ins to resolve an immediate dental concern.

An open door policy welcomes those with legitimate dental emergencies threatening the overall well being of a person’s health.

Most dental offices work from a tight schedule with production targets similar to any other business concern.

Dental emergencies are planned into the day to stay on schedule.

It takes additional planning to see walk ins without having high frustration levels.

A patient came into my office from a neighborhood health center.

Frustration at the neighborhood health center was running high on the day the patient came to my office.

The patient had informed our dental team, the health center was shorthanded on this particular day.

In addition a doctor had left his post because of invalidation from a frustrated patient experiencing a long wait in the waiting room of the health center.

Our society runs on a hurry up and wait mentality.

We check in at desks and take a number awaiting our turn for service.

Triage is a concept used in hospitals and emergency care facilities to treat the most critically injured patients.

In a dental office this may include writing medication for patients with infection, pain and suffering.

Triage officers identify who has the greatest need for treatment on any given day.

Critical care is urgent care that will not allow a patient to sit in a waiting room all day.

It does not take all day to resolve most urgent care problems in dentistry when preplanned into your day.

In your own niche find ways to identify how you can keep traffic flowing through your website or brick and mortar business.

This is one way to improve the flow of a business.

Improve the flow of your business and the overall condition of the business improves as well.

Out think the problems of the day if there is a need to increase cash-flow.

Not all colleagues agree with this concept.

Go with the flow of what works for your business.

A business with a high return on investment may need only a few bodies flowing into their business.

Not a bad idea for those focused on rendering specialized services to their clientele.

Specialized services require sincere commitment to the improvement of a problem for its resolution.

Patients appreciate resolution of their problems with no problem to small or large.

It is not necessary to become a KC dentist accepting walk ins to out think the problems of the day.

Big plans no actions

Big plans no actions have closed the curtain on a lot of our business efforts.

Time after time with the best of intentions a man or woman falls short of the intended mark.

Your mark is the bullseye that indicates a targeted goal has been hit.

As an emergency dentist in KC well written plans have been implemented on many occasions.

There have also been times our dental team was too busy to implement the best of plans.

It becomes very easy to let the flow of the day take you away from what you know should be done to succeed.

Stop asking the world to allow your success.

Success starts and stops with you.

Obstacles are overcome with clarity of thought and strong purpose.

Our goal has been to render emergency dental care to those in need of pain relief.

Attainment of goals is a science with applications that take you on a carpet ride to the stars.

No magic is needed for those who apply the science of attaining goals.

Count the times great plans were abandoned because another better looking shiny object caught your eye.

Big plans no actions to back them up, will keep you chasing dreams that seem beyond your reach.

Unleash the dream that makes you who you are destined to become and apply the right amount of nurturing to launch the dream.

We become the best of dreamers so dreaming is not the problem.

Where we fall short is implementing the dream so our energy levels generate enough actions to achieve our purpose.

Achievement of purpose is a very, very beautiful thing in so many ways.

You generate your own energy in the achievement of a worthwhile purpose.

This is what propels you to the stars.

Great plans well implemented take you where you want to go.

Mankind is short on implementing great plans.

Humanity suffers because great plans well written do not get the attention they deserve.

We are all busy doing a lot of things that keep us from implementing the desires of our heart.

There is a scripture that says, ” Give careful thought to your ways. You have planted much, but have harvested little.”

Implement actions that develop your plans and you succeed.

Big plans, no actions keep us throwing coins in city fountains and wishing wells.

Considering Immediate Dentures

Considering immediate dentures

Proceed with a good understanding when considering immediate dentures.

Dentists diagnose the need for dentures after the teeth become non-restorable or periodontal diseae

has destroyed the supporting bone.

With no bone support, teeth enter an advanced stage of periodontitist with recurring abscess formation, halitosis and loss of teeth.

Patients undergoing transplant therapy are requested by physicians to have borderline problematic teeth removed in order to not jeopardize rejection of the organ transplant through infection from problematic teeth.

The fabrication of immediate dentures start before the final removal of a patient’s remaining teeth.

The desire for teeth at the surgery visit is fulfilled after considering immediate dentures.

Not everyone will successfully wear dentures for a number of reasons.

The major concern wearing dentures is retention of the denture bases fitting securely over the edentulous ridges.

You will hear the phrase in dentistry discussed in advertising regarding dental implants, teeth placement within a day.

The phrase relates to dental implant placement for retention of the prostheses.

Dental implant placement in the jaw bones, provides great retention.

A denture becomes a fixed prosthesis because of dental implants.

Denture adhesives help to bond most dentures to the edentulous ridge.

With dental implants denture adhesive is not necessary.

The implants stabilize the denture improving patients ability to chew.

After consultation, a decision can be made to fabricate immediate dentures.

Patients come to our emergency dental hospital in KC, expecting replacement options before their teeth are removed.

Ideally waiting 30 to 60 days before a denture is made helps to get a better final product.

No one expects a patient to go without teeth for this time period.

Transitional dentures provide patients a non-embarrassing option when teeth are extracted.

It is understood not everyone is willing to spend this time without replacement teeth.

Business goes on, interacting with the public requires a pleasing smile during the healing process.

Emergency dentists in KC understand the desire for the immediate replacement of teeth.

Other than transitional dentures, immediate dentures are a viable option.

Keep in mind approximately 6 months from the extraction of remaining teeth, your dentures will need to be relined.

Relining dentures after the bone has started to settle, refit them to the edentulous ridges.

Until the dentures can be refitted, temporary soft liners and tissue conditioners are used to help support and stabilize the dentures.

Remaining bone can be stabilized with dental implants, reducing the attrition of bone.

Remember these options when considering immediate dentures.
